Hm, a German company Audio Valve clams that this new Assistant 100 amps has
“110 w sinus wave - 1khz / 1% dist. / 8 ohm load, per channel”
http://www.audiovalve.info/nav/assi100_en.html
That is bold statement even if you drive...

It is ridicules how pleasant the Yamaha B2 sound when it operates in class A and how much worse it sounds when it switches to class AB. I did not measure the power but with default 40mA it switches to class B very soon. With my current cooling te...

Thanks for the link, Romy. I'll check it out. Too bad there isn't more information about the ML2 available. A schemo with some values would be nice. Do you know if anyone has sorted it out yet?Steve Bench happens to live near ...

I see, what they did – the built a perfect sealed chimney with two fans to suck cold air in and two fans to suck hot air out. Well, it might work, even though I do like this idea. I absolutely do not see why such a hot and large tube as 6C33C sha...

A couple days ago a local friend of mine asked to let him to listen my Celestion SL600 monitors:

Last night I was cleaning/setting the room where the hated Altec 19 were sitting and I decided play them for a while. I used a few different amps. To drive Altec 19, especially in it’s default configuration, always was a subject of debates and disag...

Here is a quote from visitor’s email that I received today about audio thinking existing within know to him audio communities: “… basically everybody writes with such bias and so keen to please one another (at least their croneys, their vested intere...

[quote user="cv"]Here's a crazy thought... have you every tried driving the S2 directly from the Placette?! I know the 6E5p does some unique things but I wonder if it might be educational. The placette has a 7 ohm Zout right? Don't forget that that do...

Romy,I looked at your Melq schematic : http://www.goodsoundclub.com/PDF/Melquiades_SET.pdf regarding the 6E5P bias. Would it be simpler to use two alkaline battery in place of R5 to provide 3V , or 3 Rechargeable for 3.6V in place of R5 ? Did you tr...

Nice one Jarek! Glad that you have it going. I've now switched my autoformer to the input as one of my new sources puts out over 10Vrms and I did not want to increase the bias. No real change in sound as far as I can tell. Enjoy....

- and a very important point - about "matching" the 6C33C halves. I never thought of that, which is funny since I use the 6C33Cs myself and can't find actual matches anywhere (except for a pound of flesh, from VL, of course). And, as you note, the ...

You could always pull the grid low on the unused triode section. And ground the cathode. That would prevent stripping, I believe. Just bias it to -100V or whatever.jh...

Since renewing all tubes in both ML2s, over the period of about 3-5 minutes, the V2 bias on one of the amps cylcles between .27 and .33VDC. Is this behavior indicitive of a defective 6C33C?jd*...

hi RomyNice bias battery gimmick for the el-caps!But, i see the hardcore analogue teams are having a hard time with room modes and time alignment :)I wonder what it takes to admit one day that you can’t neglect DSP anymore, and just having so much ea...

Delet if not proper topic. Was wanting to experiment with 6e5p driving lifeless speakers. with possible 100v swing i'm guessing way to much for regular garbage amps. What are peoples ideas for lowering output v (to like >5v?) with out destroying...

Thanks, Romy. What about drift in the driver bias, etc?I suppose the liveliest component, in terms of dramatic breakdown, is the electrolytics. I have been thinking of changing to film, but in that size they are hard to find at reasonable prices....

[quote user="N-set"]BTW, how stable 6E5P is? I'm asking as I was contemplating biasing the output by the voltage drop on 6E5P's plate choke (DCR is say around 1k),with only some minimal autobias on the output. The drawback is that any drift in th...

This thread has been pretty interesting overall. I've read most of it and would at least like to provide some feedback on the technical side of designing with the 45 and 2A3 DHTs... at least from my personal experience. A few years back I decid...

I was thinking about the subject for a long time. People in audio love to make generalization, so do I, but in it is not so simple. People attribute to output tubes some “special” qualities but I more interested not about unnecessary drooling about A...
